DONA international defines a doula as "a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible."
So.. What is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula can be seen as a bridge in the societal gap that leaves new families without the support and community that we once had and all need. They have been trained and educated in support and care during the "fourth trimester" for the entire family. From newborn care, to the mother's recovery, to the needs of partners, to the potentially challenging transition for older siblings, they brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to the new family dynamic.
